Nyerere National Park

This is the moment you've been waiting for: your Tanzanian safari starts here.

Get to know one of Tanzania’s most important national parks. Here you’ll find lions – Nyerere National Park has one of Africa’s biggest lion populations – elephants, crocodiles, zebras and lots of other safari animals present in large numbers. Hippos, giraffes, wildebeest and buffalo are also seen. And you might see leopards and African wild dogs if you’re really lucky. Admire also the rugged landscape of rocky hills and lakes and the wide Rufiji River, all fringed with palm trees. Despite the Selous being one of the largest protected areas in East Africa, the area open for visitors is relatively small so you will enjoy a concentrated safari experience.

It may be Tanzania’s biggest city, but Dar es Salaam can be a surprisingly relaxed place. Enjoy its markets, restaurants, museums and beaches.

Transfer by Road, Dar es Salaam to Nyerere National Park

Explore the Rufiji River by boat for excellent hippo and crocodile sightings. Selous Game Reserve boasts approximately 1000 bird species, including miombo woodland specialists, raptors, and diverse waterfowl supported by the Rufiji's swamplands.

Selous Mapumziko Lodge is nestled at the edge of River Rufiji, you will be lucky to have the great view of the river and sundown due to its best location.By staying longer, you can partake in a broader range of safari activities. Imagine enjoying additional game drives, walking safaris, and boat safaris, all designed to provide unique perspectives of the reserve. Each activity offers its own set of thrilling encounters and insights into the intricate ecosystem.

Full Day

A guided game drive through Nyerere National Park begins, the Land Cruiser kicking up dust as we search for Tanzania's renowned predators, elephants, and hippos. Our expert guide spots fresh elephant tracks. "Mzuri sana," he remarks, "Very good. They were here this morning."

Optional Day 2

Night

A night drive in Nyerere National Park provides an opportunity to look for various nocturnal carnivores on the prowl in search of prey.

You'll be heading down more safari trails in search of animals in Nyerere National Park when we take you on a guided game drive. This is the best thing about many safaris, and you'll hopefully see many animals.
